New Delhi, June 01, 2017: Vidya Dairy in Anand, in the state of Gujarat in Western India is saving up to Rs 3,00,000 a year per compressor through installation of Danfoss drives designed specifically for refrigeration systems. VLT® Refrigeration Drive FC 103 not only reduce energy consumption but also help reduce lifecycle costs of refrigeration systems.
A full-fledged dairy plant that processes milk and milk products like ghee, cheese, paneer and ice cream, Vidya Dairy has a processing capacity of Rs 100,000 litres of milk per day. With refrigeration playing an important role in dairy plants, Vidya Dairy focused on using reciprocating compressors which operated at a fixed speed. In practice, this made it impossible to adjust the compressor capacity to the actual heat load and process needs, leading to continuous consumption and thus loss of energy.
With energy saving as a top priority, Vidya Dairy migrated to VLT® Refrigeration Drive by Danfoss India. This drive enables continuous variable speed control according to changing needs, making intelligent capacity control possible and enabling a short return on investment (ROI).
“We analyzed the data regarding energy consumption and realized that energy saving potentials enabled by the use of VLT® Refrigeration Drive FC 103 drives is up to Rs 300,000 annually per compressor, leading to return of investment in about just 15 months.” explains Mr. D. Two VLT® Refrigeration Drive FC 103 drives – one of 90 kW and the other of 132 kW – were installed to control two reciprocating compressors. “After analyzing the results of the two first drives, we were even more convinced of Danfoss AC drives offering us a new possibility to improve the energy efficiency of our plant. This encouraged us to make a new order of two additional VLT® Refrigeration Drives of 37 kW each to control reciprocating compressors and to further enhance our competitive edge,” says Mr. Ajay Zala, Engineering Head, Vidya Dairy.
