New Delhi, October 25, 2024: Indian dairy brand Amul has issued a public advisory warning consumers about counterfeit Amul ghee being sold in the market. The company has identified that some unscrupulous agents are distributing fake ghee, particularly in a one-liter refill pack, which has not been produced by Amul for over three years.
The advisory highlights that Amul has transitioned to a Duplication Proof carton pack, designed to prevent any form of adulteration. “This new packaging is produced using advanced aseptic filling technology at Amul’s ISO-certified dairies, ensuring the highest quality standards,” Amul said in its advisory.
The company urges customers to be vigilant and check the packaging before purchasing to ensure they are buying authentic products. It also asked consumers to contact Amul’s toll-free number at 1800 258 3333 for any queries or concerns according to the reports published in economictimes.indiatimes.com.
Earlier last month, Amul had also clarified that it has never supplied ghee to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) amid allegations of animal fat being used in the making of Tirupati laddoos. The brand issued clarification after several social media posts claimed that Amul ghee was used by the temple.
In a statement, Amul said, “This is in reference to some social media posts mentioning that Amul Ghee was being supplied to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD). We wish to inform that we have never supplied Amul Ghee to TTD.” The statement also noted that Amul Ghee is produced from high-quality milk fat at ISO-certified facilities, adhering to stringent quality checks as specified by FSSAI.
The controversy emerged after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu accused the previous government led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of using animal fat and sub-standard ingredients in the laddoos. Union Health Minister JP Nadda has requested a report from the Andhra Pradesh government, and Food Minister Pralhad Joshi has called for an investigation.
Jagan Mohan Reddy dismissed these allegations, suggesting they were politically motivated to distract from the public discontent with Naidu’s 100 days of governance. Reddy stated, “This is diversion politics… Is it fair to play with the sentiments of crores of devotees across the world?”
