New Delhi, July 10, 2020: Cooking oil is one of the major food ingredients being consumed in every household and food industry. Our country is highly dependent on imported oils with around 65% of oils consumed is imported oils as trend is skewed towards refined oils. Indigenous oils like Groundnut oil, Mustard oil contribute around 25% of total oil consumption in India.

3.6 million milk producers of GCMMF are also farmers and some of whom cultivate oil seeds like Groundnut, Cottonseed, Mustard etc in Gujarat. This is a noble step on the call of Honourable PM Shri Narendra Modi on Atmanirbharata with an objective of providing stable and remunerative price to edible oilseed growers of Gujarat, GCMMF has launched range of edible oils under brand name – JANMAY Farm Fresh range of edible Oils. Janmay means “newly born” or “fresh”. As brand name suggest, our oil range is promoted as farm fresh.

Currently India is importing 65% of total demand of edible oil. It is important to note that India had liberalized edible oils imports despite having 90%+ self-sufficiency in 1990’s at cost of domestic producers.  Because of such policy, today India is world’s largest importer of edible oils spending around Rs. 75,000 croresannually on foreign exchange on imports.

Janmay oil range includes Groundnut oil, Cottonseed oil, Sunflower oil, Mustard oil & Soybean oil in 1 ltr pouch, 5 ltr jar and 15 kg tin packing and. Products are being packed at new & modern plant near Panalpur, North Gujarat. Janmay oil would be available in Gujarat & Rajasthan markets initially.

As demand for branded & packed oil is increasing in this pendemic time, launch of Janmay oils offers an option to consumers as trusted & pure brand.

Launch of Janmay oils is aimed at serving both the raw material suppliers (in our case, our 3.6 million farmer owners) and millions of consumers in an equal measure through “value for many” and “value for money” based business philosophy

It is being launched through Amul parlors and retail counters in Gujarat and Rajastan.
