15,000+ Families depend on Uzhavarbumi for their daily delivery/dose of farm-fresh cow milk!

New Delhi, August 30, 2022: Vetri was the breadwinner of his family at the age of 17. By day, a college student, by night an electrician, plumber, and cleaner boy in tea stalls. Yes, that’s how he managed his family and studies. Being the first to complete a degree in the years of generation, he landed his first tech job in HCL Company. Though he struggled with his poor English-speaking skills, he had to cope with his insecurities to earn.

It was in 2016 when Vetrivel Palani left his tech job in search of something fresh. Being the founder of VivasaayaNadu Trust; a community to protect and uplift underprivileged farmers, he saw the rage of the jallikattu protests, and the problems, farmers faced as a consequence. This propelled Vetri& his brother, Paneerselvam Palani to look for a solution. And that was the harbinger of a service named Uzhavarbumi – which translates into ‘Land of the Farmers’ in Tamil, his mother tongue.

Vetri says, “not just this, there has always been an economic disparity between the man who grows the food and the man who consumes it. The problem is, the ratio is indirectly proportional, what’s worse is, it keeps increasing day by day.”Paneerselvam stresses the fact that farmers are underpaid, rural people are left with unused excess milk, urban people have no access to fresh milk, and middlemen use this to their advantage to either deliver at high prices or add adulterants to increase product shelf life. All in all, it is a big tangled knot, which Uzhavarbumi tries to undo bit by bit.

The brother duo’s start-up story has been featured on prominent channels like The Hindu, Times of India &YourStory after it raised a 1.2 Crore investment on its first round of seed funding.

Uzhavarbumi Agro Products Private Limited is an award-winning Agri-tech (Dairy) start-up based in Chennai. In 2017, UB began with a small team of 3 employees, and 2 farmers to deliver farm-fresh, bottled cow milk to just 10 customers. Today, almost 5 years later, the team has expanded to 1600+ farmers, and 150+ delivery partners, delivering to 15,000+ families. UB has delivered over 50, 000,00 Bottles of Fresh Cow Milk to its customers, avoiding over 5000 kilograms of plastic packaging material ending up in landfills, every year.

One of UB’s fundamental visions is to empower rural women through self-help groups, to give them identity, and financial independence. Divya Gokul, a hero employee of Uzhavarbumi says, she learned how to ride motorcycles, so she could be a delivery agent. From being one among the public, she had a purpose and could earn for her family. Uzhavarbumi procures fresh cow milk from over 30 women’s self-help groups and hopes to scale up its women’s community.

This is Vetrivel engineering his own white revolution, for our well-being, in the city of Chennai!

Currently, Vetrivel brothers are on the lookout for potential investors to expand their product types/ value & service in the neighboring states.
