Amul Dairy’s latest results invite a closer look at the connection between commercial scale and producer benefit.

Introduction

A growing dairy business can strengthen procurement, processing and market access. Its wider significance becomes clearer when financial performance is examined alongside the experience of the producers supplying it.

The development

Amul Dairy—the Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union—reported turnover of approximately ₹15,114 crore for 2025–26, an increase of about 7.2%. Its official turnover table supports that growth. These are the district union’s figures, distinct from the consolidated business of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation.

Reporting from its September annual general meeting also recorded average daily procurement of 48.35 lakh kilograms and more than seven lakh associated milk producers. The union outlined procurement expansion beyond Gujarat and further international ambitions.

Industry insight

These results offer a useful starting point for examining how cooperative scale translates into practical benefits. Turnover growth, by itself, cannot tell readers whether profitability improved, payments became more dependable or producers earned more after costs.

For smaller cooperatives and regional processors, the relevant management questions concern reliable collection, processing efficiency, product mix and dependable distribution. Expansion creates opportunities, but it also requires working capital and coordination across a larger supply network.

What deserves follow-up

The next editorial step is to examine the relationship between sales growth and producer returns. Interviews with management and supplying farmers could explore payment timing, procurement reliability and the benefits reaching members.

The central question is: As a dairy enterprise grows, how much of that progress reaches the people supplying its milk? A feature comparing commercial performance with producer experience would make the results more informative for the wider industry.
