‘Private companies can turn curd into milk using chemicals’, says TN dairy minister

    Rajenthra Balaji alleged that private companies add hydrogen peroxide to milk to make it last.

    New Delhi, May 29, 2017: Tamil Nadu dairy development minister K T Rajenthra Balaji continued his attack on private companies. On Thursday, he said that curd can be turned into milk by private suppliers by using chemicals.

    Addressing the media, he said, “Private companies add hydrogen peroxide acid to make milk last longer. Unadulterated milk will get spoilt five hours after being taken out of refrigerator, reported by The New Indian Express.

    The minister added that four teams were formed to test the samples from private companies. These teams are deployed in Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore and Salem.

    Moreover, Rajenthra Balaji has said that that cases will be filed against the companies if they find chemicals in milk and also shut down their factories. He asserted that he was making these allegations only after checking the packaged milk of private companies for five months.

    They have received many complaints against all the companies. He said that milk from all private companies are bad but there are some companies which are selling good quality milk and public can use it, reported the Times of India.

    He also challenged the companies to allow testing of their milk and he claimed that then the truth will come out.

    Hatsun Agro, one of the milk companies told its customers that they are using preservative free milk.

    R Chandramogan, MD, Hatsun Agro said that they procure milk directly from the farmers and the milk goes through 42 tests from procurement to delivery stage. They are also certified by FSSAI which carries out regular tests on the milk provided in Tamil Nadu and other states.

    On Wednesday, the minister had said that the private milk companies sell adulterated milk and was the cause of cancer in many children.
