Karnal, April 05, 2023: Aker a gap of around 3 years, National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal is going to organize a three-day National Dairy Mela from April 8 to10. During the meta, a large number of high-pedigree dairy animals will be participating in various milk yield and breed competitions.
The NDRI authority is expecting that more than 50000 dairy farmers and other stakeholders from various parts of the country will take part in this event.
Dheer Singh, Director and Vice Chancellor of the institute said that this meta will be inaugurated by Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare.
He said that the Mela is a mega event and is a part of Century Year Celebration of NMI and provides an opportunity to showcase the technological developments, package of practices develnd by the Institute and to create awareness among the dairy farmers regarding certain emerging issues.
He said that all dairy stakeholders including research and development organizations, private companies and progressive farmers will exhibit their products/technologies.
Singh informed that a bout100 stalls will be there in which any start-ups and youth will display their products/technology.
He also said that due to covid-19 and other circumstances, the mela could not be organized for the past 3 years.
Director further said that over the 100 years NDRI has contributed a lot towards milk production and development of new breeds of cattle like Karan Swiss and Kara n Fries. The cloning technology has reached to new heights with a grand success of cloning of both buffalo and Gir animals.
Besides, NDRI has now a well-developed referral laboratory for checking milk adulterations and have also developed various paper strips for checking pesticide, adulterant, etc. in milk according to the reports published in timesofindia.indiatimes.com.
He added that about 80% of all dairy graduates in India have either studied or have been trained in the National Dairy Research Institute. Now there is 6% growth in milk production but efforts are being made not only to increase milk productivity but also the milk quality to meet International Standards.
