Mumbai, July 26, 2021: Gokul Dairy, the largest cooperative milk brand in the state, will be unable to despatch supplies to Mumbai on Saturday owing to the floods that have gripped Kolhapur, Sangli and other districts. However, India’s largest dairy Amul has “full supplies” in place.
Amul’s managing director RS Sodhi said, “There is nothing to worry, we can supply more too. We have multiple sources in Maharashtra and Gujarat.”
Gokul’s headquarters are located in Kolhapur which is submerged under heavy rain. Chairman Vishwas Patil said, “Milk collection was largely affected on Thursday and Friday due to the downpour in Western Maharashtra and Konkan. As against the normal daily collection of 13 lakh litres, we could collect only about 2.5 lakh litres Friday. Moreover, highways heading to Mumbai are closed.”
Mumbai is the largest market for this brand. Patil said they were trying to resume supplies to the city as soon as possible according to the reports published in timesofindia.indiatimes.com.
Vegetables will not run short, though.
APMC director Sanjay Pansare said, “There is no impact on supply of vegetables and fruits to Mumbai as yet, since the flood affected areas like Chiplun, Raigad, and Kolhapur do not despatch produce to the city. Also Mumbai is a major (terminal) market so vegetables and fruits arrive from other states as well. Moreover, the current disruption will not last long.”
