New Delhi, May 31, 2017: On May 16th, 2017, food fortification gained further momentum with FSSAI recognizing and awarding early adopters from both the private sector and State governments, at its National Summit on ‘Transforming the Food Safety and Nutrition landscape.’ The 2016 essay of the National Summit witnessed the operationalization of comprehensive regulations on food fortification and the launch of the logo for fortified foods. The event placed food fortification on the national agenda and gave the sector a rallying point to adopt it voluntarily.
Kwality limited, one of the fastest and the largest private dairy company in India, was felicitated for being the early adopters of milk fortification. Kwality limited has recently launched toned UHT milk in tetra packs which is fortified and provides more than 80% of our daily RDA requirement (as per ICMR 2010) for Vitamin A & D. There were a number of early and voluntary adopters of fortification from amongst food businesses. FSSAI commends their commitment to addressing this public health issue of micronutrient malnutrition that affects 70% of Indians.
The event was marked with palpable excitement and enthusiasm. Over a hundred senior officials from civil society organizations, development agencies, academia, food businesses, government departments participated in this Summit.
