New Delhi, June 06, 2023: A gang that was allegedly selling fake Amul butter and ghee, made using ingredients of different brands, was busted by Noida Police.
According to police, the accused used to allegedly package the butter and ghee in fake wrappers bearing the Amul brand name and sell it in the market. They said they have recovered such items worth Rs 65 lakh according to the reports published in indianexpress.com.
“We had received information that a group of people were supplying butter in huge amounts from a rented building in Phase 3. So we raided the place and found a lot of things, including around 5 quintals of fake ghee and butter. During further investigation, we found out that the accused had been running the racket for the last five months,” said DCP (Central Noida) Rambadan Singh.
He further said, “They used to buy butter and ghee of different brands from Kondli in Delhi and then they used to repackage the same items with the Amul wrapper and sell in the market at Amul’s rates. To street vendors, they sold the fake items for a cheaper rate.”
DCP Singh also said a total of 11 persons were involved in the group and five have been arrested so far. He said that six accused are absconding and will be arrested soon. The arrested accused have been identified as Sanjay Singh, Rajkumar Singh, Asif Ali, Sajid and Deepak Malhotra.
A case under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 467 and 468 (both related to forgery), 272 and 273 (adulteration of food or drink intended for sale) was registered at Phase 3 police station.
