Dairy farms are closing in Bulgaria; in 10 months of 2023, about 50 enterprises went bankrupt in the country, and milk processing fell by 13 thousand tons over the last four months.
This is evidenced by the statistics of livestock industry organizations, which are once again raising the alarm and turning to the state with a request for financial support.
“Resist the destruction of our dairy and greenhouse vegetable production,” several agricultural organizations insist. A month ago, these same organizations presented financial claims to the line ministry and warned that if they were not met, demands for the resignation of the Minister of Agriculture and protests would be made.
There were no protests during the election, and a month later industry workers again sounded the alarm that none of their demands had been met and livelihoods on farms were becoming increasingly scarce.
They also give an example – if the annual income from one cow is 5,000 levs, the annual costs for it are twice as high – 10,000 levs. At the same time, this year our farmers receive 30% less support compared to the period until 2023. According to the reports published in dairynews.today .
And they warn that the destruction of livestock and vegetable farming means a shortage of dairy products and vegetables, an increase in their prices and a limitation in the consumption of milk and vegetables by children and the elderly.
