Shri Shamalbhai B Patel and Shri Valamjibhai Humbal unanimously elected as Chairman and Vice Chairman of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, Anand (AMUL Federation) respectively

    New Delhi, July 23, 2020: Shri Shamalbhai B Patel, Chairman, Sabarkantha Milk Union has been unanimously elected as the Chairman of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (AMUL Federation) today. His nomination was proposed by Shri Ramsinhbhai P Parmar, Chairman, Kaira milk union and supported by Shri Shankarbhai Chaudhary, Chairman, Banas milk union. Also Shri Valamjibhai Humbal has been unanimously elected as the Vice Chairman of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (AMUL Federation) today. His nomination was proposed by Shri Jethabhai Bharwad, Chairman, Panchmahal milk union and supported by Shri Mohanbhai Bharward, Chairman, Ahmedabad milk union.

    The election was conducted by the Deputy Collector, Anand in presence of 18 members who are chairmen representing their district milk unions in the state. GCMMF has thus maintained its glorious tradition of unanimous elections of its Chairmen since inception in 1973.

    GCMMF is India’s largest food products organization with annual sales turnover of Rs 38542 crores during last financial year. It markets a wide range of milk and milk products under the brand name Amul. Currently, the member unions of GCMMF procure an average 240 lakhs litres of milk everyday from 36 lakhs milk producers in 18,562 villages of the state.

    Shri Shamalbhai B Patel is the Chairman of Sabarkantha District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd., Sabar dairy and associated with dairy cooperatives of Gujarat since last 30 years. Sabar Union is one of largest dairy union of the largest state with annual sales turnover exceeding Rs. 5,700 crores and farmer membership of 3.8 lac milk producers.

    Shri Valamjibhai Humbal is the Chairman of Kutch District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd., Sarhad Dairy since last 11 years. Kutch milk union annual sales turnover exceeding Rs. 550 crores and farmer membership of One lac milk producers.

    Speaking on the occasion, the newly elected Chairman GCMMF said that it was a matter of great honour to lead an institution like federation which was founded by Dr V Kurien. He added that the dairy cooperatives of Gujarat have been successful since last 7 decades due to high values and standards set by its founder leaders like Shri Tribhuvandas Patel and Dr Verghese Kurien. The combination of dynamic farmer leadership and professional management has made federation the largest food organization in the country.

    Vice Chairman GCMMF mentioned that India has become the largest milk producing country in the world due to the replication of Amul model across the country. GCMMF will continue to work in close coordination with all to strengthen the cooperative movement and also support milk producers of other states if such a need arises.
