New Delhi, December 06, 2018:  In the last year, Swedish oat milk company, Oatly became extremely popular in the United States spreading from ten locations in New York to 1,000 nationwide and to 2,000 grocery stores. Recently PepsiCo announced they also wanted to release an oat milk dairy alternative early next year. It is now known that the dairy alternative was created by Quaker, the 140-year-old oatmeal company owned by Pepsi Co. Quaker may be an old company, but they certainly like to keep up with trends. One year ago, they debuted their Overnight Oats and now they are looking to join the ever-growing world of dairy-free plant-based milk.

The plant-based market is growing tremendously, especially when it comes to dairy-free milk. Recently, the first line of sesame milk was launched by Hope & Sesame proving how much excitement there is around non-dairy milks. Now bigger companies that have been around for a long time want to get in on the action. According to research by Mintel, sales of US non-dairy milks have grown 61% over the last five years. About Quaker’s decision to create a plant-based line, Brian Hannigan, senior marketing director, said, “Oat Beverage is on trend and allows Quaker, a 140-year-old leader in oats, to deliver a new format to existing customers that span generations, while also attracting a new generation of consumers who are looking for plant-based nutrition.”

Quaker has been around for a long time and there’s no denying that they know oats really well. Plant-based milks are healthier and made without the cruelty involved in the dairy industry, so Quaker’s new line of oat beverages is a welcome addition according to onegreenplanet.org

Make Your Own Oat Milk

If you’d like to try making your own oat milk at home rather than buying one in stores, here’s a yummy recipe from our Food Monster App:

Simple Vanilla Oat Milk

This is the easiest of easy homemade non-dairy milk recipes. To make Kelly William‘s Simple Vanilla Oat Milk, the only equipment you need is a blender and a nut milk bag. Unlike nuts, oats require very little soaking, so you can make a batch in nearly no time. And if you, like me, lack a fancy-pants blender, you’ll still be able to have creamy, delicious non-dairy milk without a trip to the grocery store.
