New Delhi, February 16, 2024: The Tripura government has started selling dairy products at several fair-price shops in the state capital.

In his address at the launch event on Friday, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said his government would provide dairy products – ghee, curd, paneer, and ice cream – in 15 fair-price shops in Agartala on a pilot basis.

The dairy products would be procured from the government-run Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Limited, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said at the event.

The government plans to increase the number of ration shops selling dairy products based on feedback from consumers.

The CM said his government wanted to make essential products more accessible through the expansion of PDS but also wanted to bolster local production and create new job opportunities according to the reports published in indianexpress.com.

The chief minister talked about the newly-introduced Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana that will provide medical insurance up to Rs 5 lakh every year to 4.15 lakh families in the state.

Taking potshots at the erstwhile Left Front and Congress governments, Saha said, “There have been governments in the past that created problems to survive. We want to stay in power by resolving problems.”
